The exterior of this home is so incredibly charming and charismatic that when walking to the front door for the first time, without yet having seen the kitchen, our excitement for the project was already building. Sometimes, as designers, we just have a feeling from the very beginning that it’s going to be great.
The existing kitchen cabinetry was dark and dated with undesirable angles, a clunky refrigerator, unappealing hood, soffits and heavy moldings. The aesthetics no longer suited the homeowners and the functionality did not serve their family well. The wish list was straight forward. The family desired a brighter space with white inset cabinetry, a beautiful wood hood, island seating, a dry bar that would showcase their scotch collection and improved storage throughout. They were hoping for a streamlined process with as few choices to make as possible. Budget was very important as well.
Initially, the homeowners wanted to keep their recently replaced double ovens and incorporate a new cook top. However, when they saw the potential in our design with a range instead, their curiosity peaked. Relocating the refrigerator to where the ovens had been allowed us to create a cooking run with a professional range and custom wood hood. This became the stunning focal point of the open concept kitchen/dining area/family room. This change in design also allows for much improved workspace on either side of the cooking surface. The paneled, counter-depth refrigerator’s new location adjacent to the dry bar provides convenience when entertaining and makes sense for every day living. Smart accessories such as a double trash pull out, spice storage, roll outs, cutlery dividers and more make working in the space a pleasure. The walnut top on the wet bar adds warmth and balances the walnut table designed by Margaret Pook Interior Design and crafted through our nest by Jarrett Design line of fine furniture and cabinetry. Custom corbels were incorporated into a new banquette for a cozy dining space. The sink on the island facing the seating and family room makes prep work and clean up conversational and enjoyable. Soapstone counter tops and handmade tiles for the backsplash, beautiful hardware, counter stools and fabulous lighting, all part of our collaboration with Margaret Pook Interior Design, add character to this kitchen. Now, when folks walk through the doors of this beautiful home, they will be greeted by a bright and charming space that suits the family inside just perfectly.
