An elegant design reinvigorated this catch-all room into an entertainer’s dream kitchen and bar that serves as an extension of the outdoor pool area as well as an auxiliary kitchen for the home. A dramatic mix of materials creates a stunning atmosphere. Three-inch thick brilliant black quartzite countertops sit atop black stained rift cut white oak contemporary cabinetry with bespoke integrated hardware. Custom metal and glass cabinets accented by brass light fixtures and faucetry prove to be a sophisticated combination. A pantry cabinet highlighting eye-catching octagonal door panels and interior roll outs adds functional storage for both kitchens. Bar height seating, a cozy sofa nook and a large flatscreen tv invite family and friends to linger. Horizontal v-groove wall panels tie it all together while showcasing an original oil painting of the clients’ daughter who is a national champion equestrian.
The challenge was to transform the existing dark, closed off room with no purpose into an entertainer’s dream kitchen without negatively impacting the functionality and storage for the main kitchen. As part of the design solution, the wall between the room and the main kitchen was removed along with a pantry closet in the same area. This created the desired connection between the two kitchens. A wall of large glass panels and doors to the outdoor pool and entertaining area was added where small windows were previously. Natural light now floods both kitchens. Having new access and sight lines from the main kitchen to the pool area gives meaningful flow to the home. The new bar kitchen, pantry, and lounge elevate the home with purpose and poise.
The main kitchen remodel was tackled concurrently. Old cabinets, floors and ceiling were a sea of unappealing orange. An awkward entrance dissected the space inside and out. Appliances were underperforming and the layout was ready for improvement. Tired traditional would go by the wayside making room for fresh and fun transitional. The entrance was replaced with a large window and the window over the sink was enlarged encouraging enjoyment of the beautiful view of the rolling hills and pastures outside. Ceiling planks and beams, along with all trim, were painted white making them feel higher and much brighter. Floors were refinished in a beautiful coffee stain. A bold combination of cabinetry styles and finishes, mixed metals, a 48” range, six feet of refrigeration, built-in coffee machine and a 48” workstation and stunning light fixtures make this kitchen a hardworking showstopper.
The clients could not be more thrilled with the outcome of this project. Their new kitchen exceeds all their expectations and makes cooking a pleasure. A room they thought had no hope was transformed into a specialty kitchen that adds to their beautiful home in all the best ways; functionally, aesthetically and, most importantly by providing a gathering space for all their favorite people.
Dream Big, by the way, is the name of the pony in the painting.
