Good friends with great taste came to us to remodel key areas of their home – the kitchen, powder room, hall bath and principal bath. The kitchen no longer served this active family of five functionally. Aesthetically, let’s just say, it was time for a change. The space was jammed with a dark kitchen area, breakfast nook, laundry/mud room, and powder room. It was closed off to the family and dining rooms. This avid cook and her very social family were ready to renovate! We decided to relocate the laundry and mud areas and powder room to the garage entrance hallway by enclosing a small, unused porch on the side of the home. This gave the powder room privacy while providing convenience near the family’s most used entrance. When the walls came down, the space opened up incredibly. In fact, many friends were convinced an addition had been built! Openings into the dining and family rooms were expanded for much better flow. Natural light flooded the spaces.
The working area of the kitchen was flipped to the window wall of the house and a large island with seating and charming drawers was incorporated. A cozy and bright banquette area was designed for gathering. In the space where the working area of the kitchen had been, a stunning bar and pantry wall was added for storage and ease while entertaining. Brass fixtures and hardware, white marble tops, warm wood and cool grey cabinetry play beautifully off of each other. A reproduction antique vanity for the powder room, inspired by a photo the homeowner had been saving, was designed and locally built through our nest by Jarrett Design line. The sink was a handmade treasure the couple had carried home from a faraway trip. The kids’ bath also needed to be completely updated. Transitional painted cabinetry, wood tile floor and white quartz tops refreshed the room. The principal bathroom was completely renovated with lovely walnut cabinetry, marble tops and floors, and new mirrors and sconces. In order to provide more space for the couple’s clothing, we designed an armoire that sits beautifully in their adjacent bedroom. Our friends now have a home that reflects their style and serves them well.
