A sweet labrador retriever named Scout and her kind owners came to us to remodel their old farmhouse kitchen. It was in dire need of a total overhaul. The only aspect of the existing kitchen that the owners enjoyed was the conversational seating at the island. Avid cooks and entertainers, they craved a pro range, copious counter space, an efficient layout, a butcher block, improved light and better flow. A classic white kitchen with walnut accents along with exposed original beams and stone was their idea of the perfect space.
Taking down the wall between the existing kitchen and front of the house dining area allowed us to expand the kitchen greatly. While we were at it, we opened up the space into the foyer inviting guests and light to enter freely. The ceiling beams were restored to their original glory thanks to the owner’s elbow grease. The stone wall separating the kitchen from the new dining space was exposed and repointed drawing attention to original window openings and setting a dramatic backdrop for the space. New, rustic flooring looks lovely while providing comfort and durability. A handy and handsome butcher block furniture piece with knife storage completes the large, conversational island. The dark quartzite tops and natural marble backsplash feel right at home with the other elements. Timeless and bright inset cabinetry chock full of organizing accessories serves the owners with beauty, function and lasting practicality.
