Tucked into the prestigious West End of Allentown, this 1917 home, one of the neighborhood’s earliest, offered incredible history and equally incredible potential. A young, growing family came to us ready to reimagine the space for modern living while honoring its architectural roots. With its grand foyer, sweeping staircase, soaring ceilings, and expansive windows, the home, affectionately nicknamed ‘The Turner’, had all the right bones; it simply needed a thoughtful transformation to match the clients’ refined yet approachable sense of style.
Our clients’ vision was to create a home that feels sophisticated, layered, warm, and inviting, with moments of modern contrast. The kitchen became a true centerpiece of the renovation. By expanding into the existing butler’s pantry and adding a light-filled side addition, we were able to design a space that balances beauty and function. Generous pantry storage, a dedicated beverage area, and a cozy banquette for six fit perfectly into the corner. A new door connects the kitchen to the outdoor entertaining area, reinforcing the home’s easy flow for family life. Warm whites, rich mahogany tones, and marble countertops with detailed edges set the palette, while brass fixtures and decorative lighting add a polished glow. A mix of wood flooring and classic black-and-white tile introduce texture and timeless charm.
A new mudroom addition, connected to the detached garage by a breezeway, now serves as the family’s everyday entry point. Designed to work hard while feeling welcoming, it features custom storage for each family member, hidden laundry for pool days, a built-in desk, and terracotta flooring paired with deep, moody finishes and abundant natural light.
Upstairs, we relocated the principal suite to the east side of the home, allowing for a spacious dressing room complete with custom cabinetry, integrated hampers, and a cozy bench. The adjoining bath channels a boutique hotel experience, with a soaking tub, an expansive shower with brass fittings, and a striking mahogany vanity with reeded detailing. Calacatta Gold marble, layered tilework, and architectural moldings bring depth and elegance to the space.
Additional moments throughout the home continue the story: a charming third-floor bath in a crisp black-and-white palette with a steam shower; a bright, elegant second-floor laundry that makes daily tasks feel just a bit more enjoyable; and a reimagined former garage, now a pool house designed for effortless entertaining.
This project was truly a labor of love. A collaborative effort guided by our clients’ impeccable taste and thoughtful involvement from start to finish. Every contractor and tradesperson played a meaningful role in honoring the home’s history while helping bring the vision to life. The result is a home that feels deeply rooted in its history, yet perfectly suited to how this family lives today.
